Dovetail SawsDovetail saws are similar in form to tenon saws, but of a much smaller size, and having very fine teeth in the blades : it commonly measures 8 inches in length and 3 inches in breadth of blade. As its name implies, its chief use is for cutting dovetails for the formation of dovetail joints, as described in the following section. This saw is, at the same time, very useful for cutting small work requiring great accuracy: in this direction it is more convenient than the larger tenon saws. The teeth of the dovetail saw are extremely fine, and have only sufficient set to prevent the saw being friction-bound in the cut. |
